Jesus emptied Himself of all in order to become a man and be filled with the Spirit.

The Spirit did not come to regenerate or purify Jesus.

As the sinless, incarnate Son of God, He did not need to be born again or spiritually cleansed.

Nor did the Spirit come merely for indwelling and fellowship with God, which Jesus already enjoyed.

The Spirit came at Jesus’ baptism expressly to empower Him to begin and successfully complete His mission on earth. Jesus, the Little One who became a thousand.

Asking, Seeking, Knocking

Luke 11: 5-12 (AKJV)

And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Shameless Persistent and Insistence

Luke 11: 5-12

I tell you, although he will not get up and supply him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his shameless persistence and insistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs. (AMPC)

He may not get up and give you the bread, just because you are his friend. But he will get up and give you as much as you need, simply because you are not ashamed to keep on asking. (CEV)

But let me tell you, even if he won’t get up because he’s a friend, if you stand your ground, knocking and waking all the neighbours, he’ll finally get up and get you whatever you need. (MSG)

John 3:27 (AKJV)

John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

Prayer Points

• Father, we ask for a fresh outpouring of your Holy Spirit upon our lives.
• Lord, baptise us a new with the Holy Ghost and with fire.
• We are knocking on heaven’s door and we will give You no rest until we are endured with power from on high.
• Father, we beg you, we plead with you, we even come cap in hand, O Lord, send Your Holy Ghost in all His fullness into our lives.
• Come, come dear Holy Ghost, we plead in the name of Jesus.
• We need you, dear Holy Spirit; without You we can do nothing, in fact from now on, we refuse to do nothing, say nothing, if you do not come into the situation.
• We have ceased from all our works; we voluntarily lay down our tools; our shoes; and we hand over to you, dear Holy Spirit. Come in Your power, come in Your strength, come , come,  come fill us to overflowing.

But There is a Caveat

• The matter of mammon, money, provision for myself, must be dealt with permanently.
• An eye/heart looking at / focusing on the outpouring of the Holy Ghost as in Acts and money (self preservation, self provision) in a 50:50 ration is an evil eye.
• A DOUBLE EYE / HEART = AN EVIL EYE/HEART ≠ CANNOT HOUSE THE HOLY GHOST 
• Such an individual  is worse than someone looking at money 100%, hence the darkness of such a man a great.
• The root of this double vision is greed and /or distrust, unbelief, lack of faith.
• A life with double vision cannot be filled with the Holy Ghost as in Acts 2, since the Holy Ghost cannot dwell with darkness.
• Until consecration is 100%, complete severance from and exclusion of every other thing , including the greatest contestant against the life of faith (i.e.MONEY), the Holy Ghost cannot come as we are asking Him to.
• Just as we cannot jump over Acts 1 to reach Acts 2, We cannot jump Matthew 6 and reach Acts 2.
• UNBELIEF: DEVISING AN ALTERNATIVE SYSTEM TO TRUSTING GOD.
• SOLUTION: “TAKE NO THOUGHT”, “MAKE YOU REQUEST KNOWN”, “BE CONTENT”, “LEARNING TO ABOUND AND TO ABASE”

The Case of Lot

• For the well watered land he could see, he refused discipleship of a life of faith under Abraham and chose to provide for himself.
• God in His mercy came to him again and Abraham rescued Him, yet he did not return; he still went back to the “well watered” land in Sodom.
• God came again and delivered him from the burning Sodom and Gomorrah, yet he did not return to the life of faith.
• Another case of failed discipleship, such a man called a righteous man as we heard in 2 Peter, yet he fathered Moab and Ammon with his own daughters.
• He could not be a receptacle for the Holy Ghost and since there cannot be a vacuum in nature, another kind of spirit took over.
• Lot was culpable because covetousness, greed, unbelief, provision for himself made him refuse discipleship. Look at what became of him.
• Thank God for His magnanimity. While her forefather refused the life of faith in discipleship, Ruth, a Moabites through discipleship embraced a life of faith by a “reckless abandonment” to God. She became a receptacle of the Holy Ghost and was inserted into the genealogy of Christ.

Solution to Mammon

Matthew 6: 31

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

Philippians 4:6-7

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:11-13

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

Prayer Points

• Lord give me light; open my eyes and the eyes of my household to see that we are labouring under mammon; show me/us Lord. Shatter the darkness and let Your light flood our eyes and our hearts.
• Deliver me/us from mammon; Deliver me from this way of life collected from Adam where he had to toil to meet his needs, fend for himself independently of God.
• Break the hold of the system of money, work, toil which does depend on God upon my heart.
• Let me pass the test of Mammon; rid me of my evil heart of unbelief that departs from the living God.
• I don’t know how to live this life of faith. I have been brought up and have lived in the life of self provision and self preservation. Break me loose from this type of life.
• Lord, teach me how to live this life of faith. From today, begin this work in my life, because “the Just will live only by faith.”
• Lord, teach me how to “take no thought”
• Lord, teach me how not to be “anxious” and how to “make my request known.”
• Lord, teach me how to be “content” in whatever financial state I am in, knowing it is a school that will teach me to “abound and abase.”
• Do this for me, Lord, so that I can be the able carrier and bearer of the Holy Ghost.

The Burden so far...

• A little one who is poor, contrite and trembles at God's Word. 
• A little one who is insignificant, inconsequential, hungry and thirsty.
• A little one who is shattered, crushed, naked, weak, and feeble. 
• A little one whose shoes of experience, expertise, knowledge has been taken off who falls before the commander of the Lord’s army.
• A little one who, just like Jesus, shone His glory, power, strength and ability; has been disabled permanently and reduced to zero.
• Jesus, after being reduced, preached the gospel of repentance to become a thousand.
• Going = multiplying. When this little one goes out to preach the gospel, souls are saved, disciples are made and signs will follow. 
• Conversely, if this little one who has received mercy does not go as instructed, he will not multiply.  

Wait, before you go...

Jesus, The Little One Who Became a Thousand 

Isaiah prophesied His birth (Chapter 9), His death (Chapter 53) and in Chapter 61, right after saying this little one will become a thousand, the next statement is - how will this happen? Jesus read this portion of Scripture and testified of Himself before the people (Luke 16-21).

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, the Spirit of the Lord has anointed me - to do what?

• To preach the good tidings, liberty, acceptable year of the Lord. 
• To preach the good news, glad tidings, gospel.
• To who? The poor, meek, wretched, prisoners, mourners, brokenhearted, captives.

Isaiah’s prophesy was fulfilled in the life of our Lord in the New Testament at many point and junctions of His life.

At Conception 

The Holy Ghost overshadowed Mary His mother. This was confirmed when the baby in Elizabeth’s womb received the Holy Ghost when Jesus the Baptiser by fire visited him in his own mother’s womb.

At Baptism 

This was confirmed by the symbol of the dove resting on Him and the voice of affirmation from heaven.

At Several Points Throughout His Ministry Here on Earth

It was not a one-off infilling for our Master; it was a continuous, constant infilling.

However, at the beginning of His ministry, at baptism, there was a significant infilling that was notable, that was palpable, detectable by the sign of a dove and the voice of God, at least to John the Baptist.

Prayer Points 

• Father, please pourYour Spirit upon me without measure, without limits, not in rations, not in, not in trickles, not showers, a downpour, a flood. 

• Ezekiel 47 - Plunge me totally into the river of the Holy Ghost. Let me be overwhelmed completely, submerged into Him.  

• Dear Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, the New Creation man Himself, You must increase in my life and I must become extinct, not only decrease but become extinct in the name of Jesus. 

• Come upon me just as You did at Pentecost. Come Lord, please come. 

 But there is a Caveat...

• The matter of Judas must be settled permanently, irrevocably, irreversibly, conclusively once and for all before we can move from Acts Chapter 1 to Acts Chapter 2.

• Not a physical Judas now, but a spiritual Judas inside me, who even though he has gone his own way and was finished at Calvary, yet he still remains in form of dead works and sinful habits. 

• Esau is an antitype of this Judas, he waylaid Jacob with 400 men when Jacob was returning to the land of promise. His descendants, Edom also prevented Israel from passing the short cut through their land on the way out of Egypt into the promised land.

• This led to Israel taking a longer route. They were then faced with temptations which led to murmurings, death, striking of the rock etc., culminating in many perishing in the wilderness including Moses.

• Similarly with us, at this brink of our entering our own Pentecost and our own Acts Chapter 2, our own promised land, Judas lurking inside you and I will waylay us and prevent us from experiencing the fullness of the Holy Ghost.

• Just as Peter and other disciples had to decisively deal with Judas before their own Pentecost, God must help us to deal with ours. 

• We are not the ones waiting for the Holy Ghost my brethren, He is waiting for us. Waiting for empty vessels, empty containers.

• Just like that widow, as soon as empty vessels finished, the oil stopped flowing. In the same way, if there are no empty vessels, the oil will not even begin to flow. 

Prayer Points 

• What is the JUDAS still lurking inside of me? What are the Esaus still raging inside me? Lord, I beg, as you helped Jacob and showed Him mercy, please, I beg, show me mercy. Overpower them for me in the name of Jesus. Overpower Judas in me in the name of Jesus.

• Dig them out; dig Esau out of my life. ESAU did not seek Jacob for 20 years, but as soon as he heard that Jacob was coming to possess his inheritance, he began to rage - a real rage with 400 men. Father, as you conquered Esau for Jacob, please do for me. 

• The help God rendered Jacob was the dislocation of his hip bone. Father, push my hip bone out of joint; let me become permanently disabled for life;  let me be always in need of help; always in need of a crutch, an aid, a support the HOLY GHOST.

• The help God rendered Jacob was a change of name after he told God that he was a supplanter. Please, call your real name out before God so that He can change it for you. 

• Jacob was a failed case of both vertical and horizontal discipleship, but mercy came for Him one last time at Peniel for the sake of God’s covenant with His father, Abraham. But we have a better covenant by the blood of Jesus, cut, sealed and delivered at the cross. Lord for Your sake, come for me one last time; let Your mercy prevail over my life; break my hip through discipleship; don’t let my discipleship fail.

• The help God rendered the disciples was that Matthias took Judas’s bishoprics, and forever, nobody saw, thought or remembered Judas ever again in their midst. Lord, replace Judas in my heart, in the seat of my soul, mind, emotions, will and intellect. Replace him with the crutch of the HOLY GHOST. His bishopric in my life let another take, the HOLY GHOST. 

Going = Multiplication  

• When we go, men will be saved.
• When we go, signs will follow, the sick will recover, demons will be cast out.
• When we go, we will multiply our own kind. 
• When we go, those who have not heard the gospel in the power of the Holy Ghost, will hear.
• In order for this little one to become a thousand, we must go and preach the gospel.
• The Mystery of the Gospel has been and is being proclaimed to us. It is being proclaimed in us. It reduced us and is reducing us to zero, now the Mystery of the Gospel must be proclaimed through us and multiplied through us.  

Power from on High to Go... 

Acts 1:8 

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (KJV) 

But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power to testify about me with great effect, to the people in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth, about my death and resurrection.” (TLB) 

Modus operandi of our going…

Jerusalem – Immediate circle of influence; family, friends, neighbours, colleagues at work. 

Judea – Another borough, another city, in the train, at the shopping mall, in the plane, on the bus.

Uttermost part of the world – Afghanistan, Syria, China, Burundi, ancient tribe or civilisation.

Luke 24:49 (KJV) ⁴⁹and, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. 

INSTRUCTION 1 (TARRY / WAIT / PRAY) 

The instruction Jesus gave His disciples is to tarry, wait and pray with expectation.   
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him? (Luke 11:13)                             

• We must be willing to receive what we have asked and believe that the Lord will grant us our heart desire.
• We must be willing to wait on the Lord. 
• We must continue in prayer. 
• Must make sure there is no unbelief or doubt in our hearts.

INSTRUCTION 2 (PRESENT YOUR VESSELS)

2 Kings2:3-4(KJV) ³Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. 

⁴And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. 

• The Lord need us to empty ourselves of all encumbrances 
• Submit ourselves to Him.
• Avoid distractions and be focus on what He will do. 
• Obey what instruction He gives and the miracle will happen.

Prayer Points

• Father, thank You for the promise of the Holy Spirit. 
• Lord, we empty ourselves of all encumbrances (impediments, weights, distractions from within and without). 
• Lord, come and sit on us individually. (Acts 2:3) 
• O Lord, let the carnal thoughts within us vanish and every worldly affection in our lives disappear. 
• Lord, grant us the grace to do what the Holy Spirit likes and abstain from what He dislikes. 
• Holy Spirit, help us to be completely yielded to You, allowing You access to every area of our lives. Help us to obey Your instructions because You are the Spirit of Truth and will never lead me astray.
• Come Holy Spirit and settle upon us again and deal with every individual as you see fit.
• Lord, ignite a fresh thirst in our hearts for your presence. 
• Lord, as we tarry in the place of prayer, fill our vessels to overflowing again in Jesus' name. 
• Father, anoint us/me afresh as Jesus was anointed with the Holy Ghost and power. 

PRAYERFULLY SING THIS SONG

INSTRUCTION 3 (OVERSHADOW YOU) 

Luke 1:35 (JKV) And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. 

• To overshadow us, brood over us, shield us, protect us from adverse effects. 
• Enable us to carry the life of Christ fully. 
• Father, let Your presence and glory powerfully outshine. 

INSTRUCTION 4 (GO WITNESS)

Acts1:8(KJV) but ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. 

 Luke 4:18-19 The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, [19] to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour. 

 Purposes of the anointing are revealed: 

1. To enable us  'to preach [the] good news' effectively. The news we share about Jesus is 'good'. The anointing will enable us to share it with impact. 
2.  To make us a Spirit-filled messenger a “proclaimer of freedom for the prisoners” — freedom from the prison of sin, of drugs, of depression, of life-dominating habits. 
3.  We are anointed to bring “recovery of sight for the blind”— both physical and spiritual as Jesus did. Not only healing, but other gifts of the Holy Spirit begin to flow from the anointing of the Holy Spirit in your life. 
4.  We are anointed “to release the oppressed”. All around us are people oppressed by sin, by sickness, by demonic attacks, etc.   
5. You are anointed “to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour” to people ignorant of the comforting message of God's grace. 

                          

PRAYER POINTS 

• Thank You Lord for making me a carrier of the Holy Spirit. 
• Thank You for making me a witness for you. 
• Father anoint me afresh tonight as Jesus was anointed with the Holy Ghost and power. 
• Let the Holy Spirit that is descending upon us pour in our hearts the love of God for souls. (Rom5:5b 
• Lord, sharpen your word(the message of the gospel) in my mouth and let it come with power and the Holy Spirit. 
• Lord grant me utterance and boldness to preach your Word. (Acts4:29-31) 
• Help me to preach Christ and Him crucified. 
• Let our Gospel came not unto them in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance… (1Thes. 1:5). 
• Father, we pray you draw men unto you by Your Spirit. (John6:44) 
• Let there be increase in souls coming to your kingdom. 
• Lord for this outpouring let there be increase in the harvest. (1Cor3:7) 

Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my Spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. (Prov. 1:23)

It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. (John 6:63)

• Open my eyes to behold wondrous things out of Your Word. 
• Let me know and understand the mysteries in Your Word. 
• Let me speak to others by revelation. (1Cor 14:6). 

The promise [of the gift of the Holy Spirit] is to you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call (Acts 2:39). 

• Father, release Your Holy Spirit upon our families as our Jerusalem (Children, husbands, wives and those who around us).
